A French Gilt Bronze and Baccarat Glass Sixty-Light Chandelier
Early 20th Century
Height 63 x diameter 52 inches.
Property from Lawry’s The Prime Rib, located in the historic L. Hamilton McCormick Mansion, Chicago, Illinois, offered without reserve
Condition
Appears in overall good, stable condition. Prisms are largely intact, two prisms to interior-most band of prisms on base of chandelier detached and not retained. Other prisms appear largely intact with only a few scattered small flakes and chips that would not be noticeable when hung. Chandelier is wired for electricity on exterior of arms. Some arms bent slightly our of alignment. Drip-pans of candle cups holding lights with drilled holes on rim for other drop prisms. No evidence they were ever used. Chandelier would need to be professionally crated for shipment by a third-party shipper. Additional images available upon request.
Provenance
Note:
A staple of Chicago's dining scene since 1974, Lawry's The Prime Rib has become intertwined with the landmark status of its location in the McCormick Mansion. Contributing to the building’s legacy of hosting, inaugurated by its original owners L. Hamilton McCormick and Constance Plummer McCormick and followed by the transformation of the private home into a nightclub, then restaurant and puppet theater, Lawry's The Prime Rib made the McCormick Mansion its first satellite location outside of its base in California. Returning the home's architecture to its original English manor taste with a modern sense after having been remodeled by intermediate owners, Lawry's The Prime Rib established itself as a worthy steward of the mansion. Following its closure in December of 2020, many of the furnishings that shaped the restaurant's ambiance for longtime customers are featured throughout this auction.
