[REVOLUTIONARY WAR]. A group of 2 Massachusetts documents including an enlistment bounty receipt for a Revolutionary War soldier.

Partly-printed enlistment bounty. Boxford [MA], 16 February 1777. 1 page,
7 1/2 x 2 7/8 in., creases at folds, scattered spotting, mounted to board.

"This certifies that John Merrill has been mustered and sworn in the Room of Davis Allen as a Beverly Man, and has rec. of the said Davis the Bounty which I paid him being twenty six pounds." Signed by John Cushing, Muster Master.

[With:] APPLETON, John (1652-1739). Province of Massachusetts Bay probate document signed ("John Appleton"). Ipswich, Massachusetts, 20 December 1728. 1 page, 7 1/2 x 12 1/4 in., scattered spotting, creases at folds, small portions of document attached to board with adhesive. Appleton was a long-serving Judge of Probate in Essex County. Document relates to the estate of one Joseph Martain (unknown- ca 1728).
