A Large French Gilt and Patinated Bronze and Marble Figural Clock Garniture
19th Century
comprising a mantel clock and associated pair of urns, the clock surmounted by a seated scribe holding a tablet.
Height of mantel clock 24 x width 18 1/8 inches.
Property from the Estate of Jules and Gwen Knapp, Glencoe, Illinois
Condition
With a winding key and pendulum. The clock may be overwound. The hands can be manually advanced and the hammer strikes the bell at the hour and half hour. Runs briefly when the pendulum is set in motion; the hands can be seen advancing but then the pendulum stops after a minute or so. Has not been inspected by a horologist or tested for timekeeping accuracy. The overall appearance is attractive and the clock and urns are in stable condition. The urns and clock are "married." Old cracks, chips and repairs visible to the marble base of the clock. The clock and one of the urns with loose feet, The bronze figure with a deep, rich patina and the gilded elements with a bright luster. See additional photos.
