Having a seam at the bicep of the woman's raised arm, imitating a spot of restoration frequently visible on other renderings of this figure. Slightly loose in its fitting. The figure with areas of rubbing to patina throughout, particularly to appendages. Light surface scratches throughout. Additional images available upon request.

This depiction of an Amazon woman is known as the "Mattei Type" after the Greek sculptor Phidias. It is one of four similar renderings of Amazons erected by Phidias, Polycleitus, Cresilas and Phradmon at the inauguration of the Artemision in 440-430 B.C.
