Canvas is wax lined, with original verso no longer visible; significant deposits of surface dirt and dust; network of craquelures throughout surface; canvas has slight outward buckle in upper left corner; thin black scuff mark extending from woman's neck through her left shoulder; two small abrasions in lower right corner; vertical liquid drip stain in lower left corner; inpainting scattered throughout, visible under both normal and UV light, with areas of inpainting in woman's right cheek and hair, the right side of her bodice, around her hands, and within the lute.
