Lot notes:

Artist, curator, writer, and art-historian David C. Driskell (1937-2020) is celebrated for his legacy of spotlighting the art of Black people in America and is considered by many the founding scholar of African American art as a field of study. He is highly regarded for his 1976 landmark exhibition Two Centuries of Black American Art, now widely recognized as a pivotal moment in American art history. His own artwork ranging from paintings, collages, prints, and drawings is recognized for its intimacy and innovative abstraction.

The following session includes hand-pulled prints that explore central themes in Driskell’s artwork, personal and cultural identity as well as nature and spirituality, while illustrating his mastery of form and composition.
