Purportedly brought from Rome by Fr. Ferdinand Kuhr (1806-1870), first pastor of Mother of God Church in Covington, Kentucky.
Rediscovered in Aurora, Indiana by Rev. Thomas Byrne, an early Sisters of Charity chaplain, who gifted it to Mother Regina Mattingly in 1883.

In stable condition. Canvas has been relined. Small dimple present to background, with considerable areas of inpainting and infilling present throughout.
