A Regency Black-Painted and Parcel-Gilt Japanned Cabinet
Circa 1810
Height 35 3/4 x width 40 1/2 x depth 12 1/4 inches.
This lot is located in Chicago.
Condition
The top has been redecorated. Lacking a key. Areas of flaking paint and one or two larger paint losses exposing gesso on the top. One side of the underside with a crack through the rail holding the feet to the body; one of those feet is loose, but cabinet is stable - it can stand on its own but needs repair to tighten the loose rail and proper right back leg. Shelving interior has been reconfigured. Filled area where lock mechanism was removed. Sides re-decorated.
