[FRENCH & INDIAN WAR]. Edinburgh Evening Courant. Edinburgh, Scotland: 11 October 1760. Featuring early, front page coverage of Britain's capture of Montreal from the French.

4pp., folio, 9 5/8 x 14 1/4 in. Disbound (partially separated at central fold, chipping and some loss at edges, light toning at fold lines, occasional spotting, ink stamp lower right on p. 1).

The newspaper features a prominent, front page headline, “The Following Gazette Extraordinary, with the Agreeable News of the Reduction of Montreal (Canada), Came Down Last Night by Express…” The entire issue contains twelve columns of news coverage of the Montreal Campaign with the capture of Montreal by the British from the French, which marks the total victory of the British over the French in what is now Canada during the French and Indian War.

The Montreal campaign, also known as the fall of Montreal, took place from 2 July to 8 September 1760, and was a British three-pronged offensive against Montreal. The campaign, pitted against an outnumbered and outsupplied French army, led to the capitulation and occupation of Montreal, the largest remaining city in French Canada.
