Description

A Chippendale Inlaid and Figured Mahogany Brass-Mounted Moon-Phase Dial Tall Case Clock

Aaron Willard, Boston, Massachusetts, 1792-1823

the face inscribed Aaron Willard / Boston, the works and moon phase marked Wilson.
Height 96 1/2 x width 22 x depth 10 inches.

This lot is located in Cincinnati.

Property from the Collection of Carole Siegrist, Cincinnati, Ohio

Condition
In overall fine and stable condition. Retaining an older surface, but likely early refinished. Scuffs, marks, and scratches consistent with age and use.  The clock takes a wind, runs, and chimes on the hour, though uncertain of the accuracy of the 8-day movement. The works and case appear to be original to each other. Appears to retain the original winding key, weights, and pendulum, though evidence of minor repairs to the pendulum and weights is visible. Weight cables replaced. Age cracks with associated lifting to the trunk door. Craquelure to the face and moon phase dial, with areas of loss to the moon phase. The brass finials, while showing age, are likely replaced. The bottom board is broken out and lost.
