Period manuscript identification in lower margin of mount identifies subjects, some of which are difficult to discern. In part: W. Holcomb," "A. Root," "H. Nickerson," "J. Goddard," "E. Leach," and "S. Leach."

The subject on the far left wears first sergeant's chevrons on his frock coat, and various accoutrements and firearms rest to the side of the group.
