Description

Composite Type 98 Shin-Gunto and Reproduction Shin-Gunto

1.) 27" Nagasa. 39.25" overall with Tsuka (Hilt) and Saya (Scabbard). Single edged Shinogi-Zukuri pattern blade with brass fittings including the four Sakura (Cherry Blossoms) to the corners of the Tsuba. Item is without grip tape or a rayskin wrap to the hilt, and shows signs of attempted cleaning and refinishing. The Nakago (Tang) is struck with a WA symbol known to appear on Japanese wartime blades. Habaki, Tsuba, and Seppa all show an assembly number of 15, with rough workmanship suggesting they are reproductions. Fuchi and Kashira show Sakura designs over beaded grounds, but the Tsuka lacks the lanyard loop standard on Type 98 mounts. Details on the Fuchi and Kashira are rough, suggesting they may have been refitted to the sword in an attempt at restoration. Comes with an all metal scabbard with no wood core and no drag. Brass mountings to the scabbard are incorrect for Type 98 swords, suggesting replacement with reproduction components.

2.) 25.75" Nagasa (Blade Length). 36" overall with Tsuka and Saya. Reproduction Type 98 Shin Gunto sword with synthetic rayskin to the hilt and an undersized Nakago.

This lot is located in Cincinnati.
