Contemporary Flintlock Jaeger Rifle in the Style of Jonas Schertiger The Younger

.40 caliber. 31" octagonal barrel. SN: NSN. Finish left in the white. Walnut stock has a large drooped cheekrest to left side, along with some rococo style carvings to grip and incised lines to forearm. Flintlock rifle with two leaf folding notch rear sight and blade front sight. Item features wax-cast brass rococo stock fittings, with carved stag horn inlay depicting a nymph to top of grip. Also featured is a patchbox with lid showing a cast brass fitting of rococo scroll surrounding what appears to be a nymph. Includes a sling loop to forearm and a cast brass sling stud to butt. Crafted in the style of an 18th century jaeger rifle made by Swedish gunmaker Jonas Schertiger the Younger, and housed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
