Printed caption to recto: "I Sell the Shadow to Support the Substance. / Sojourner Truth." Verso with copyright imprint: "Entered according to the act of Congress in the year 1864, by Sojourner Truth, in the Clerk's Office, of the US District Court for the Eastern District of Mich." Truth appears seated at a table with flowers, engaged in knitting.
