Description

[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. Sixth plate tintype portrait of a Black man wearing a large hat.

Sixth plate tintype seated portrait of a bearded and grizzled Black man with what appear to be dreadlocks under his thick-brimmed hat. (Heavy loss and oxidation to significant portions of plate mostly covered by mat, other lesser surface scratches and imperfections throughout, subject remains rather clear; unsealed.) Housed under mat, glass, and preserver. Subject wears a worn jacket and gazes slightly upward and to the side, just off-camera.

This lot is located in Cincinnati.
