The present work is likely a preliminary study for the altarpiece by Giovanni Battista Gaulli, Saint Anna and the Virgin Mary, in the chapel of Palluzzi Albertoni. The chapel is located in the 17th Century Baroque church of San Francesco a Ripa, in Rome.
