Cycle of the Werewolf began as a calendar with illustrations by Wrightson and short vignettes by King, who later decided to expand the idea into a novella which would feather accompanying illustrations by Wrightson. King would later use the story as the basis for his original screenplay Silver Bullet, which was adapted into a 1985 motion picture starring Corey Haim and Gary Busey.
