6 volumes, 4to (305 x 229 mm). 39 copper-engravings including portraits by Gravelot and Hayman, decorative engraved tail-pieces throughout. Contemporary mottled calf, edges stained red (re-backed preserving original spine, lettering-pieces, and endpapers).

FIRST EDITION of Hanmer's famous illustrated set of Shakespeare's Plays which was the first of the Plays to appear "in any splendid typographical form...[it] was a popular book and was proudly displayed in the libraries of the great and fashionable" (Dibdin).
