Description
[MINING - EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. Sixth plate daguerreotype of a possible gold miner wearing a 2-piece Mexican War-era military belt.
Compelling portrait of a seated outdoorsman wearing a planter style hat, a full, thick beard, and a 2-piece interlocking circular belt buckle. (Tarnishing to edges, notable scratch to left side of plate, minor spotting; unsealed.) Housed in a fully separated case.
Having the western style and rugged look of a pioneer or prospector, the subject featured here could very well have been one of the many men who tried their luck in the California gold fields in the mid-nineteenth century.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
