Description
A Set of Three Regency Parcel-Gilt and Ebonized Caned Seat Dining Chairs
Circa 1820
comprising two armchairs and one side chair.
Height of armchair 32 x width 21 x depth 25 inches; height of side chair 32 x width 18 x depth 23 inches.
Condition
Seat height 18 inches. Each in overall fine condition. Retaining even patina and color throughout. Scuffs, marks and scratches consistent with age and use. Traces of craquelure and flaking to the painted surface. The caning shows good age, though it likely isn’t the original, but it is also mostly intact with few trouble areas. The side chair and one arm chair each have an early screw inserted at the top of the proper front right leg at the junction with the side seat rail, suggesting a loosening of the joint. The previously mentioned repair to the side chair is slightly loose. It is possible that some of the molded supports of the back are replaced as some show little to no wear in comparison to others.
