Condition
The unlined canvas showing no restoration under ultraviolet light. In unrestored original condition apart from scattered minor surface losses/nicks, including, but not limited to, a pinhole loss at upper right just above figure's left sleeve in background and areas in upper background, principally at left, with pinpoint paint losses. There are some very slight stretcher bar impressions and there is some generally unobtrusive surface craquelure. Additional images available upon request.

Provenance: Private Collection, Maryland.Note:Housed in an original tabernacle frame designed by the artist, The Lute Player was executed in Rome, where in 1866 the artist had settled permanently. The lot is accompanied by a copy of Vedder's The Digressions of V (New York, 1910).
