Double Action Revolver by Carl Stiegele of Munchen

9mm Centerfire. 5" barrel length. SN: NSN. Blued metal finish mounting an octagonal barrel, lanyard loop to butt, and checkered hardrubber grips with deep relief grotesque masks to butt and serpents above fastening screw escutcheons. Carl Anton Stiegele established his Munich based firearms business in 1854, after a previous venture had ended dismally. Despite this, his business flourished in a new city, and he was soon manufacturing extraordinarily elaborate rifles for wealthy clients from as far afield as Moscow and even Japan. Though better known for the elaborate prize rifles he made, and which have graced the cover of "The Journal of the German Gun Collectors' Association"(No. 15, Fall 2002. Vol 5 No. 3, and No. 41 Fall/Winter, 2009), Stiegele also manufactured a variety of more functional arms, such as this lot.

This lot is located in Cincinnati.

Condition
Fair to Good. Bore is primarily Bright with some brown patinated spots, and a light brown patina throughout. Metal finish shows some extant traces of blue around the recoil shield, forward frame, and surrounding the rear triggerguard, but the metal parts are primarily a deep brown patina. Grips have some light scratches and few skips to the checkering, but retain fine details. Trigger fails to reset between shots, and frequently fails to engage the hand.
