Cut Down and Sporterized Composite US Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle

.45-70. 18.5" barrel. SN: 375128. Blued and color casehardened finish, walnut stock. Single shot breechloading trap door action military rifle, altered to sporting rifle. 1873 dated locks shows some machine marks around the edges, low arch breech with three line "1873" marking. Two-piece triggerguard with bow machined down to only .5" wide. Buttplate removed, butt shortened to a 13" length of pull, butt thinned and tapered, forend shortened and removed, barrel shortened with a brass band added at the muzzle for a front sight, which is missing the blade. Model 1884 rifle ladder rear sight. Tang drilled with two holes. Swivels removed, some screws replaced.

Condition
Fair. Bore good, partly bright, showing scattered oxidation, some light pitting and strong rifling. Metal with some old applied blue, breech block recolored. Metal showing scattered surface oxidation, dings and mars. Mechanically functional action. Wood with wear and heavily modified, shortened forend spliced just behind the single barrel band.
