A Queen Anne Walnut Bottle Case on Stand with Drop Leaf

Virginia or North Carolina, Second Half 18th Century

Accompanied by eight blown green glass bottles, with labels to underside for W.S. Ahern, Richmond, Virginia.

Height 41 x width 24 1/2 x depth 15 3/4 inches (closed), depth 29 3/8 inches (open).

Condition
refinished throughout, retaining an even color; interior to right-facing side panel with patched grooves where dividers may have been installed, but no evidence on current right-most facing divider panel; interior with some occasional insect damage, some losses apparently filled to bottle dividers; some fill around lock clasp to underside of lid; top board of table has been later screwed to brackets that are installed in side rails; the box is attached to the table- does not come off; indentations to underside of leaf, possibly indicating former use as a sewing table- possibly evidence of a sewing bird; a line of insect damage to underside edge of leaf; rule joint patched to exterior at hinge attachment of leaf; some wear and minor age cracks to feet; accompanied by a group of eight bottles, which may or may not be original to case, and exhibiting expected minor signs of wear commensurate with age, including occasional knicks or scratches; includes key
