A handsome example of Audubon's depiction of an American robin, plate CXXXI from his Birds of America (London, 1827-38). "Painting and plate depict two adults, above, and four young around a nest, all in a branch of Rock Chestnut Oak. The caterpillar which one of the adults is feeding to its young in the painting is more finished in the plate. Painted at Great Egg Harbor, New Jersey, on July 2, 1829." (Low)
