Description

A William IV Mahogany Breakfront Bookcase

Circa 1830-40

Height 105 3/4 x width 130 x depth 15 inches.

This lot is located in Chicago.

Condition
The bookcase disassembles for transport as follows: two side sections, upper and lower attached as one; upper center section; upper lower section; pediment in three parts. One side section is missing two of its glass panels. The other glass panels are all intact without cracks; most are original but some are replacements. The interior later electrified and illuminated (not tested). Lined with moire. The pediment has a split section needing repair, but it can be placed on the bookcase and looks complete without repair because it is held in place by the molded cornice. The center door of the lower central section is loose and needs a replaced hinge. Bookcase is sturdy overall with an attractive patina. Scuffs, negligible age cracks, and other signs of wear from use and handling throughout. Additional images are available upon requesr.
