Founded in 1856 in Wilberforce, Ohio, Wilberforce (College) University is a historically black university affiliated with the African Methodist Episcopal Church. It was the first of its kind of be owned and operated by African Americans, purposed to educate young African Americans with a traditional curriculum focused on liberal arts.
