List of rules includes: "1. The servants must respect the manager & his family, & stand in fear of him...6. The keys must, when not in use, be in the house or with the manager - never in possession of the servants or left in the locks...11. Every part of the farm should be visited, and every thing on it come under the manager's eye, every day...16. No wrangling or quarreling among the servants. The manager will correct the offending person & all engaged if necessary."
Receipt tipped in records a transaction between William H. Luck and E. Collinson whereby the latter purchases white pine boards for $4.80, paid in 1862.
A William H. Luck is listed in the 1850 and 1860 censuses as being an overseer of a farm in Hanover County, Virginia.
