**Springfield M1 Garand Dated December, 1941 with Original Barrel, Uncut Operating Rod, Flush Nut Sights, British Poofs
.30-06. 24" barrel length. SN: 408294. Parkerized metal finish overall mounting walnut semi-pistol grip stock with sights consisting of early flush nut adjustable aperture rear sight and front blade with protectors. Long stroke piston driven rotating bolt semi-automatic rifle fed by an internal box magazine charged with stripper clips. Receiver marking reads U.S. RIFLE/CAL. .30M1/SPRINGFIELD/ARMORY followed by the serial number. Right receiver is marked D 28291-14 along with SA, while the original US barrel marking reads S-A-11-41, with all these marks and serial number corresponding to a production date of December, 1941. Barrel additionally shows British Birmingham proof markings in addition to a {Broad Arrow} mark, indicating this rifle was Lend Leased to the United Kingdom. Operating rod lacks the late and post-war radius cut, and shows a part number of D35382 3 SA, correct for 1941-42. Bolt is punch dot marked and numbered D28287-2SA/RE4D, indicating this part was made in November, 1941. Trigger housing reads D28290-5-SA, hammer C46008-2 SA to the face with safety marked C46015-6SA all correct for this serial number. Stock displays circle P mark to the wrist with large Ordnance {Crossed Cannon} escutcheon beside a boxed S.A./G.H.S. cartouche for inspector Gilbert H. Stewart, correct for M1 Garand rifles inspected in this serial number range from 80,000 to 700,000. A well preserved example of the M1 Garand as it went to war in 1941. {C&R}
