**Springfield Armory M1C Garand Sniper Rifle Rebuilt 1953 with M82 Scope


.30-06. 24" barrel length. SN: 3691197. Parkerized metal arsenal refinish overall set in a walnut semi-pistol grip stock mounting leather cheek pad and an M82 telescopic sight on a Griffin & Howe mount. Long stroke piston driven semi-automatic sniper rifle charged with stripper clips. Item mounts post-war T105 pattern rear aperture and front blade sights with protectors. SA-52 marking to the receiver indicates that this rifle was rebuilt, most likely in 1953 or later given its barrel date, which reads SA D6535448 4 53 A190A. Trigger housing marked D28290-14-SA. Hammer face marking reads C46008-7 SA. Bolt mark of D28287-19SA/A-9 corresponds to June to October, 1945 production. Receiver mark reads D28291 35. Scope base is blued, and shows a correct World War II era mark reading GRIFFIN & HOWE INC. NEW YORK/PAT. # 1,856,549 MAY 3, 1932. Scope mounts a sun shield showing number 7640805, and a rubber eyepiece. scope tube is marked C7674029 with the left tube showing production marks reading TELESCOPE M82/SERIAL NO. 34869/STOCK NO. 84374. Screws for scope base are staked. Both bases for windage and elevation knobs marked 7634671 with knobs marked A7575180 and 7575180. Right side of the scope base is numbered 3251846, which does not match the rifle, typical of arsenal rebuilt rifles. Receiver is struck U.S RIFLE/CAL. .30M1/SPRINGFIELD/ARMORY with the serial number corresponding to an original production date of April, 1945. Stock exhibits circle P mark to the wrist and a T below the semi pistol grip, along with a {Defense Acceptance Stamp} to left wrist. Leather cheek pad is struck MRT/2 52 on the right side, and shows brass grommets to lace holes. Barrel is punch dot marked behind front sight. Rifle comes with a canvas Nobuckl sling and a stamped flash hider marked HIDER FLASH M2/THE HART MFG. CO. Comes with a letter from CMP attesting that the rifle was sold through their organization in 1997 as an M1C sniper. {C&R}

Condition
Very Good as Arsenal Refinished. Bore is dirty with some dust and residue that should clean to Very Bright with crisp rifling throughout. Metal finish displays some internal cycling wear, some scratches and light edgewear. Wood dented, scuffed, and lightly stained with handling wear overall. Scope is functional but lenses are dirty and the eyepiece has hardened. Cheek pad shows some light scratches and scuffs and signs of hardening. Grommets covered in verdigris and the laces are broken. Item shows a muzzle erosion reading of between 0 and 1, and a throat reading of between 1 and 2.
