Our annual summer book sale offers a vibrant mix of literary gems—from classic detective fiction to visionary sci-fi and beloved books that made their way to the silver screen. This sale highlights the diversity and depth of Pre-Columbian and ethnographic art across the Americas. A standout group of Mezcala stone temples from a private Colorado collection (Lots 13-30) shows how abstraction was used to define sacred space in early Mesoamerican culture.A strong selection of Andean textiles from an important New York collection (Lots 140-149) demonstrates how color and pattern were central to identity and status in ancient Peru.Rounding out the sale is a large group of terracotta and stone objects from Colombia (Lots 81–126), from a Georgia private collection, reflecting the region’s rich sculptural traditions and deep connection to ritual and the human form.Together, these collections offer a clear look at how ancient cultures used form and material to express belief, power, and daily life.

Freeman’s | Hindman’s August 19th Art + Design auction presents a dynamic mix of modern and contemporary works across painting, sculpture, and design. The sale features a compelling group of works by Thomas Chimes, spanning the full arc of his career, complemented by pieces from other notable Philadelphia-area artists including Jane Piper, Bo Bartlett, Judith Schaechter, and Elizabeth Osborne.The auction also boasts a strong selection of Modern and Impressionist works by artists such as Jean Dufy, Françoise Gilot, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Jean Hélion, alongside paintings, prints, and sculptures by more contemporary figures, including Milton Avery, Margaret Keane, Sam Gilliam, Norman Bluhm, and Pol Bury.The Design portion of the sale is anchored by iconic pieces from Mario Bellini, Florence Knoll, Mies van der Rohe, and Charles and Ray Eames. Freeman’s | Hindman is proud to announce a special summer auction to benefit East Side House, the vital Bronx-based organization that owns and benefits from The Winter Show, America’s leading art, antiques, and design fair.  This August, a portion of our curated biweekly auctions series will offer forty lots donated by some of New York’s most admired designers led by offerings by Bunny Williams and Elizabeth Lawrence, Jamie Drake, Juan Montoya, Nate Berkus, and Billy Cotton. This sale features a wide array of furniture and decorative arts from a number of consignors, including the Millhiser Collection, the Collection of Robert K. and Joy Lewis, Sag Harbor, New York, and the Zaricor Quilt Collection. Property from notable institutions including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Atlanta History Center, and a Mid-Atlantic Institution offer a depth of forms. The selections include William & Mary, Queen Anne, Chippendale, Federal, and Victorian furniture, as well as highly decorative objects such as silver, cut glass, porcelain, brass, and iron. Portraits, miniatures, Marine objects, needlework samplers, and quilts round out the auction.
