Description

[CIVIL WAR]. Quarter plate tintype featuring a playful portrait of identified 7th Iowa Infantry pards in Corinth, MS.

Lightly hand-tinted quarter plate tintype housed in a pressed paper case. With manuscript notation written in the case, behind the image, "John Trine / J.A. McIntyre / Taken at / Corinth Miss. / 1863 / 7th Iowa."

Research indicates that John Trine and James E. McIntyre served with Co. K, 7th Iowa Infantry. The regiment was at or near Corinth, MS, multiple times between 1862-1863.

A studio portrait of two soldiers casually seated side by side, smoking cheroots. The mustachioed man at left appears to be in the act of pinching the ear of his friend, who doesn't look pleased by his fellow soldier's actions. Both subjects wear tall boots. The subject at left wears a slouch hat while the subject at right appears to be wearing a lower crown kepi.

An excellent example of two "pards" showing their camaraderie from the field in a studio setting.
