[SPACE EXPLORATION]. An archive of items related to US Consul Gordon Bell, incl. a pair of photographs autographed by the Apollo II crew. 


13 5/8 x 10 3/4 in. photograph mounted on 20 x 16 in. textured cardstock with inked presentation reading, "To Gordon Bell / With Best Wishes / From the Apollo 11 Crew" to lower left, and bearing signatures of Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Buzz Aldrin to lower right. Image shows the American flag planted on the lunar surface, with Buzz Aldrin standing to the viewer's right and apparently saluting the flag (the tips of his fingers can be seen near his helmet in other versions of this image, though they are not clearly visible here). (Image surface with crackling only noticeable when viewed under raking light, with a few surface abrasions throughout; mount with toning and adhesive residue that appears to be from previous matting.) -- 9 1/2 x 7 1/8 in. photograph mounted on 14 x 11 in. textured cardstock with inked signatures of Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Buzz Aldrin beneath image. Image features the three astronauts posed together in their spacesuits before a lunar backdrop. (Some very light surface imperfections to print, else good; mount with wear to edges.) -- Official consular appointment book for Gordon Bell as US Consul. Gilt coat of New South Wales to front cover. -- Apollo 11 patch with eagle over lunar surface motif. -- Together, 4 items related to Gordon Bell. Accompanied by 5 ink-jet printed copies of silver gelatin prints featuring members of the Apollo 11 crew and/or Gordon Bell, one of which appears to have the signatures of Nail Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Buzz Aldrin applied with felt-tipped pen.

Gordon Bell served as US Consul beginning in August 1969, in which capacity he hosted the Apollo 11 astronauts, Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Buzz Aldrin.
