FIRST EDITION of this famous photobook showing views of Shanghai, including the international settlement's imposing architecture, expansive boulevards, and bustling streets. The Shanghai International Settlement was established following the defeat of the Qing army in the First Opium War, after which a treaty was established, opening the city's five treaty ports to foreign merchants.
