Mêne was a prolific sculpture of animal bronzes. His work was influenced by sculptor Antoine-Louis Barye and painters Edwin Landseer and Carle Vernet. He received several medals and accolades at the Paris Salon and exhibited at the London Great Expositions of 1855, 1867 and 1878. He opened his own foundry in the 1850s. His son-in-law Auguste Cain continued Mene's foundries until 1892. Susse Freres Foundry purchased and cast Mêne's models during the 20th century. Literature: www.artart.com
