Provenance
Catalog Note Daisy Makeig-Jones is best known for her fantastical Fairyland Lustre line she created for Wedgwood, consisting of lavishly decorated pieces which depicted fantastical scenes of her own imagination. Technically difficult to produce, the series encapsulates a lilting Art Nouveau quality with gilded designs atop iridescent glaze work. Wedgwood Fairyland Lustres’ whimsical dream-like atmospheres were inspired by Daisy's fondness and nostalgia for fairy tales. These dazzling and imaginative pieces were a visual respite for an audience grappling with the horrors of World War I and revitalized Wedgewood's popularity after a turn-of-the-century slump. Daisy Makeig-Jones’s Lustres defy any standard stylistic categorization and remain singular works of design. They tell a story of remarkable artistic vision and perseverance during a dawning time of female entrepreneurship.
