Provenance
Catalog Note A painter and a ceramicist, Jun Kaneko creates bulbous stoneware sculptures that he calls "dangos," Japanese for "dumpling." Ceramic works in this scale become expressive canvases for painterly glaze applications and bold pattern experiments. Here, long lines of vertical black drip from the upper body. The black ground of the upper portion encases a red circle as a focal point on one side, a square on the reverse.
