Condition
Portrait of James A. Waller:Unframed.signed A.K. Stoddard (lower left)The unlined canvas in overall fair condition, with a slightly glossy finish. As the work is unframed and the paint has been applied very thinly, we notice abrasions along the four outer edges of the work, extending in parts of the composition (the sitter's knees at bottom center, parts of his jacket and tie, in the background at upper left, as well as on the sitter's forehead, cheeks and the bridge of his nose). No sign of inpainting as seen under UV light. It reveals a thick layer of old greenish varnish throughout, however. Additional images available upon request. Boy with Hawk: signed A.K. Stoddard (lower right)As the canvas in unframed, we notice scattered (light) abrasions along the four edges of the work. With light stretcher bar marks around the portrait itself. Examination under UV light doesn't reveal any inpainting. Additional images available upon request.
