A Comb-Back Windsor Armchair
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Late 18th Century
Retaining some traces of green paint, inscribed in chalk to underside, "JS."
Height 44 x width 25 1/2 x depth 17 inches.
Condition
Front right-facing foot is replaced; old chalk to underside of seat, "JS"; evidence of a few campaigns of paint, but presently showing a refinished surface with traces of early paint to recessed areas; with some occasional old insect holes commensurate with age; knuckles are composed of three segments- upper and lower, and exterior side, and both sides of armrests carved with volutes; some slight loss to foot height and interior of back left-facing leg with some old surface loss; right-facing arm with hole from where knot used to be; back is sort of leaning to the left-facing side; with some occasional old losses to front spindles
