A Carved and Painted Pine Pipe Box
Possibly Pennsylvania, 18th Century
With cut-out heart and fylfot hex motifs over single drawer.
Height 13 x width 4 x depth 3 1/4 inches.
Condition
with darkened varnish to surface, which has some nice occasional crackling commensurate with age; with some occasional knicks or small losses to surface; a couple small splits to and along fylfot hex motif and with separation / split to middle of two top hearts (where they conjoin) along top edge; subtle age crack to top front edge of right-facing side and to front top edge of front side, at nail attachment; drawer with loss along entirety of bottom lip and small loss to upper left-facing corner; drawer and whole piece of nailed construction; reverse side and underside with added felt pads
